Dinner
Need to write about dinner last night because it was such an experience. We went to one of the most popular restaurants in Hvar - Konoba Menego. It is not touristy and slightly out of the way and we had what we would call Croatian tapas. It is tiny rooms with a family who built on land they have owned for hundreds of years. They showed us Venetian coins they found while excavating.
The food started with octopus, sardines and shark. The octopus was flavored with vegetables and olive oil and was pretty good-said by someone who hates octopus! The shark also was tasty but I had only a tiny piece as I could not get over what I was eating. Both were locally caught.
The next part of the meal was antipasto with smoked meats which were all amazing, smoked cheeses which were mild, crumble cheese which was salty, olives, tomatoes.
After that we had green gnocchi with prawns and white gnocchi with beef - the Dalmatian stew I am getting used to seeing.
Desert was drunken figs, figs in grappa and cheesecake which was scrumptious.
Come summer, we are told people stand in the street for hours to get into this restaurant so we felt lucky to have beat the crowds.
