Transfer to Havr
Today we left the island of Brac with its great quarries but not before a short hike down significant hill where the trail was lots of tiny pebbles to a monastery that started in 1550 and ceased to exist in 1963 when no could be found to succeed the last monk.
It is built into a side of a mountain and a number of small villages appeared around the monestary for the educational and economic benefits the monestary could provide. The trail was down but with significant tiny rocks so a bit slippery. We had awoken to news of horrid storms on the mainl land but the mountains stopped e storms from hitting the islands. The Monestary was turned over to the state by the cousin of the grandmother of our guide who is related to the last priest who realized ere was no one to come after him given the communist time. 500 years of books are still stored in the building which is now closed while the Croation government seeks funds to repair some rock damage.
We hiked to the bottom of a hill, using a road that had once been used to bring a piano the the monestary. As the trail was a bit rough, we all marveled at the idea that workers could move a piano over such rocks. The bottom of the hill had a cove where two of use waded in and one drove in so that we can say we swam in the Adriatic. The beach was very rocky so once my shoes were off, I found I could not walk very far but got my feet and shins wet which is a start. A medical issue saw us waiting for one of our party before we could board a boat for pickup and a ride a long the coast. Since so much of Croatian culture is water related, it felt good to be on the water and we saw tuna jumping as we made our way up the coast to the most famous beach on Brac. The tide changes the shape of the beach so that sometimes it hooks right and sometimes it hooks left.

We were picked up and brought to a family picnic area where the owners made a pecca (?) which was veal, lamb, chicken and pork and vegetables and potatos grilled in a barbecue in a metal pan under a pyramid. I can not possibly describe how good everyone tasted and after last night's local fish experience, which was more than I could stomach, I gorged myself on amazing foods.
To make up lost time, we drove to the top of the montain, the highest point in Brac and were rewarded with perfect views of the southern islands.
A quick catermaran ride later and we landed on Hvar and drove to the town of Hvar which is a big summer resort for princes and movie stars. On the way here we saw Tito's island off the coast, a small island made into a nuclear buker with miles of underground living. Parts are now open to the public. Back to Hvar, Prince Harry of Wales and Beyonce famously made appearances here recently. We are here at the start of the season which makes all things quieter. I walked along the coastal walk to see the old President's house, now a hotel and joined friends for an awesome pizza dinner in a harbor restaurant.
